A Message From Our Commanding Officers
Majors Doug and Carol Back
Dear Friends,
The lady looked a bit younger than her eighty years allowed.
She had a mischievous smile and a wonderful sense of humour.
The conversation was often of the good old days and how things have changed.
But the most surprising comment she would make was of the 47 children that she and her husband had fostered
over the course of their married life. Each of the children were special to them, most staying in touch over the years
and grateful for the love and security found in a place they could call home.As a person who obviously had the wisdom of the years,
what advice would she have to pass on to someone who was perhaps a novice when it came to having responsibility for others?
‘Put as much effort into a child’s spiritual welfare as you do into their physical and mental well-being and you won’t go far wrong.’
Surely she spoke the truth. If all we concentrate on is physical and mental development the end result is a lopsided human being.
Soul care is an absolute necessity for building whole people.
Give me, Lord, every day
Thy sweet spirit of caring;
Graciously teaching me
Thy great love to be sharing.
Sharing daily with those I meet,
Those I live with daily,
Give me, Lord, every day
They sweet spirit of caring. (tune: Edelweiss)
